Emergency Fund for Vulnerable and International Students
What is it like to be a DACA immigrant student or an international student living and attending university in the United States right now? Well, as a result of the recent executive orders and immigration travel bans, some of us live in fear of our immigration status; others can no longer travel home over summer and winter breaks without risking being denied re-entry into the country to complete our studies.
It is for this reason that I am launching this campaign and have already secured some financial support from Adelphi University to help those students who are vulnerable to the recent immigration bans. This financial support, however, may not be enough to accommodate all of the students who may be vulnerable at this critical and confusing time in their academic careers and in this nation's history.
With this in mind, this campaign is asking the ENTIRE Adelphi community to consider donating whatever they can towards an Emergency Fund that will be managed by the DACA, International & Immigration Task Force. With the funds that this campaign raises (in addition to the matching funds that the University leadership sets aside), we will be able to address concerns such as, but not limited to, food and housing.
I am an international student myself and while Sri Lanka has yet to be targeted by the executive orders coming out of the White House, many of my closest friends here at Adelphi are in a tougher position than I am. If the Adelphi Community can ban together on behalf of our most vulnerable students, I am confident that we can make a difference and help avert what would be a disastrous situation for one of our own.
We can do this Adelphi! Help me raise $10,000 to create an Emergency Fund for Vulnerable International and Immigrant Students and the University Leadership will match it, up to $5,000!
Finally, please also consider the message that making a donation sends to our community and to those of us who feel left out by the immigration bans. By making a donation your name will appear below this campaign (unless you donate anonymously) and the entire Adelphi community will have the chance to see just how united and committed we are to one another.
Thank you for your time and thank you on behalf of ALL international and DACA immigrant students here at Adelphi. We can't do this without YOU.
